Up until now the test was recommended for those 18yo and above, at high risk of diabetes. In response to an increasing incidence of Type 2 diabetes in younger people, and  in line with current clinical guidelines, the recommendations  have recently been updated to include children and adolescents.

The HbA1c test is suitable for:

  • ADULTS who are asymptomatic, aged 18 years or over, at high risk of diabetes and
  • Type 2 diabetes screening, in CHILDREN and ADOLESCENTS ≥10yo and above, or from onset of puberty, whichever occurs earlier, who are overweight or obese and who have one or more additional risk factors for diabetes.

You may claim the 73839 item for 1  test in a 12 month period, for a client in either of these categories.
