Trevor Garlett
Hi my name is Trevor Garlett.
I’m from Noongar country & from the Balladong tribe. I live in
a small Wheatbelt town which is located in the Heart of the Avon Valley
called NORTHAM. Northam is located 100km East from Perth.
My training started in 2004 at Marr Mooditj Aboriginal Health Worker College doing my Certificate 3 in Aboriginal Primary Health Care Work & continuing Certificate 4 in 2005. After finishing my Studies at Marr Mooditj I was employed by Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service as a Home & Community Care Worker based at Mirrabooka. At the end of 2007 I decided that I would move back home to be close to family. Then in January 2008 I was employed by WA Country Health Service as an Aboriginal Health Worker servicing the Avon & Central Region: Northam, Quairading, Beverley, Goomalling, York, Baker’s Hill & Wundowie. I did my Competency training for the DCA 2000 at the Bayer Australia building at Technology Park, Perth in March 2008.
It’s hard to get our clients in to see a GP in the Wheatbelt about their Diabetes. That’s why we have an advantage of having this DCA Machine at our Noongar Boodja Diabetes Clinic here in the Wheatbelt. It’s quick, easy & the results are ready in 6 minutes.
I hope in the future all Aboriginal Health Services will be involved in this fantastic program. Once again thank you to QAAMS & SIEMENS (previously BAYER) staff for allowing Aboriginal Health Professionals to have this great product at our Clinics.
I look forward to being a QAAMS Leader for Western Australia. Hope to catch up with everyone.
Thank you
All the Best
Trevor Garlett
