Heather Halls

Heather Halls was one of the first employees of Flinders Medical Centre, commencing work as a Graduate Assistant in the Unit of Medical Biochemistry, where she assisted with the planning of the unit’s initial input into the new medical curriculum, as well as being involved in research into carbohydrate and liver function.  Converting to the role of a Medical Scientist employed by Flinders Medical Centre, she continued to demonstrate to and tutor medical students, while participating in the clinical biochemistry diagnostic service, undertaking research into methods development and into the cost-effectiveness of the clinicians’ use of the diagnostic service.  After a temporary absence, Heather returned to the university sector of Medical Biochemistry where she assisted Prof M Berry with the writing and publication of a book.  Following the birth of her second child, Heather worked as a research assistant with the Lipid Research Laboratory of the University of Adelaide, located at the Hanson Centre.

After a career as a university and hospital scientist spanning 20 years, Heather diversified her career into private industry in a related area with a service orientation while continuing to tutor medical students in Problem-based Medicine at the University of Adelaide.  Heather returned to a career as a Project Officer – Scientist with the Community Point-of-Care Services unit in March 2006, working on the Point-of-Care Testing in General Practice Trial, and is now employed to work on the QAAMS program.  Since commencing with the unit, Heather has assisted the Director with the set up of an electronic library for the unit and has participated in QAAMS training workshops.
