Brooke Spaeth
Brooke Spaeth joined the Community Point-of-Care Services (CPS) unit in February 2010 as a new Scientist/Research Assistant to work on the QAAMS Program. Brooke has always been interested in scientific research and rural health as she has come from a rural area herself (Port Augusta, South Australia).
Brooke completed a Bachelor of Medical Science degree at Flinders University
in 2008. As part of her third year studies, Brooke completed the topic Point-of-Care
Testing, run by the CPS unit, during the last semester. This inspired her
to approach the Director of the unit in relation to further education and
study in the field of POCT. As a result Brooke undertook and successfully
completed an Honours project with the CPS unit in 2009, which evaluated
the effectiveness of Point-of-Care Testing in the Northern Territory.
Through her experience gained with her thesis work and her dedication to
working with rural and remote communities, Brooke successfully applied for
a new scientific position with the Community Point-of-Care Services team
in February 2010. Brooke now looks forward to working with the management
staff involved in the QAAMS Program and broadening her knowledge in the
areas of point-of-care testing and Indigenous health.
