Janice Gill

Jan has been part of the QAAMS team since its inception in 1999.  Jan is a biochemist who has worked in pathology laboratories for over 20 years and is now the Co-ordinator of the RCPA Chemical Pathology Quality Assurance Programs.  The RCPA Chemical Pathology Quality Assurance Programs is one of the world leaders in providing quality assurance programs to pathology laboratories and point-of-care testing sites in Australia, New Zealand and 42 other countries around the world.

When the initial concept of the QAAMS model was developed the provision of a quality assurance program was an integral part.  The RCPA QAP developed the QAAMS Quality Assurance Program for the Australian Aboriginal environment, designing the material and reports so that they would be suitable for the Aboriginal Medical Centres.

The QAAMS program is so successful that it was used as the model for the Australian Government’s PoCT in General Practice Trial conducted from 2005 – 2007.  Jan and the RCPA QAP provided the quality assurance program for this trial.

Jan is also involved in the design and provision of PoCT quality assurance programs for hospital based glucose meters in Australia and other countries.

Jan’s interest in PoCT leads her to being a member of the Australasian Association of Clinical Biochemists (AACB) Working Party on PoCT which has as its aim to provide information and education to any person interested in setting up PoCT.

Jan enjoys her work with the QAAMS Program especially getting to know the participants.
