David Dunn
David Dunn is the QAAMS Program’s Clinical Support Officer. David has worked as a doctor in Aboriginal community controlled health services since 1991. In Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, where David was Medical Director of the Bega Garnbirringu Aborginal Health Service for 13 years, he was involved in developing a holistic culturally appropriate indigenous health service serving the remote Goldfields region. An integral part of this work was the establishment of chronic disease care programs, which centred on Aboriginal Health Workers using POCT instruments for chronic disease monitoring of clients. For the past 2 years David has worked at Nunkuwarrin Yunti of SA Inc, the main Aboriginal community controlled health service in Adelaide. David states: “In this urban setting also I find POCT instruments empowering both for patients and the health care team. Patients having immediate feedback on their diabetes control often acts as a motivator and encouragement for further healthy changes. For Health Workers, using the POCT instruments is an important skill which enhances their care of clients.”
