Please examine the following 10-point checklist and, if your CEO/Director can answer YES against ALL of the following items, then the QAAMS Program is likely to be beneficial to your service:
Are you an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service or a State/Territory funded Aboriginal Medical Service?
Is Diabetes a major health problem in your community?
Is Diabetes is a health priority at your medical service?
Does it take quite some time to receive your laboratory results?
Does your health service have an interest in POCT and want to take greater ownership and control of your diabetes services?
Does your health service have a DCA 2000/Vantage or sufficient funds to buy one (current retail price approximately AUD$7500?)
Do you have the appropriate infrastructure and staff resources to assign an Aboriginal Health Workers (or nurse) to be responsible for POCT?
Will your Aboriginal Health Worker (or nurse) be allocated specific time to conduct both client and quality testing, the latter involving a regular fortnightly testing commitment?
Will your Aboriginal Health Worker (or nurse) be appropriately supported by your clinical and administrative team in his/her role as POCT operator?
Are you prepared to ensure your Aboriginal Health Worker (or nurse) is allocated sufficient time for on-going training and competency (re)assessment?
