An important on-going activity of QAAMS is to assess the cultural and clinical effectiveness of POCT in the Indigenous medical service setting. This is undertaken by:
- qualitative surveys of our key stakeholder groups, namely Aboriginal Health Workers as POCT operators, doctors who are managing clients with diabetes using the POCT results, and clients as consumers of the POCT service, and
- collecting and analysing data on whether POCT is contributing to improved clinical outcomes for clients with diabetes; most notably improved diabetes control (as assessed by a reduction in HbA1c) across time in both individual clients and groups of clients.
